Elinor “Honey” Esserman
Elinor “Honey” Esserman passed away on September 25. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Joseph Lachman; her siblings, Naomi Wimmer and Edwin Lachman; her husband, Edward Esserman; and the light of her life, her son, Lawrence “Larry” Esserman. She is survived by her remaining children, Richard Esserman (Rhona Bluestein) and Rabbi Rachel Esserman. She was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School and Syracuse University. She worked in the Research Office of SUNY Binghamton for many years. Before Temple Beth El of Endicott closed, she served as its co-president. She was also active in its Sisterhood. She was president and treasurer of Broome Developmental Center’s Parents Group and was a member of its Mending Group. She was chosen to be BDC Volunteer of the Year for her hard work. Honey loved music and played the piano. She studied Hebrew on her own and loved to do literal translations of the Bible. She never wanted to stop learning. She was an incredible mother and always there for her children, pushing them to do the best they could. Honey’s motto was: What is the purpose of life? To have fun! She noted that she had missed nothing and her constant refrain was, “I have a wonderful family.” The family would like to thank the workers on the third floor of Elizabeth Church Manor for their loving care during Honey’s final years. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 28, at Temple Concord, 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton. Calling hours will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The funeral will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by burial at Westlawn Cemetery. A meal of consolation will take place at the synagogue following the burial, as will the first shiva service that afternoon. In person shiva will take place on Thursday, Saturday and Monday at different locations. There will be an online shiva for those living out of town on Sunday. Please do not send flowers. Donations in her memory may be sent to Temple Concord, or The Reporter or Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton, both at 500 Clubhouse Rd. Vestal.
