Edith Foster Hebb, formerly of Elmira, N.Y., 90, died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus, James G. Johnston Nursing Home.
Edith was born on August 1, 1926 in Washington, D.C., only child of Emory M. and Edith (Stevens) Foster. Edith was a licensed Psychiatric Social Worker with degrees from Radcliffe College and Simmons College of Social Work.  In the course of her career she worked as an adoption counselor and as a social worker at a residential home for troubled youth.  Edith retired from the Elmira Psychiatric Center as a family social worker. In retirement Edith volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Elmira and completed an extensive family genealogy.  Edith was a member of The Park Church in Elmira, where she devoted much of her time to peace- making efforts.  
Edith was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Raymond Maurice Hebb.  She is survived by her three children:  Joan Elizabeth Hebb of Binghamton, Carol Diane Hebb and her husband Michael Redfern of Salem, MA and Ralph Milton Hebb and his wife Andrea Bird of Waltham, MA.; as well as grandsons Thomas Christopher Hebb and David William Andrew Hebb of Waltham, MA.
Edith's children wish to offer heart-felt thanks to the caregivers in the Star Unit and Unit 3 at the J.G.J. Nursing Home for the exceptional, compassionate care and love they gave Edith and her family during Edith's long illness.  Those wishing to may direct memorial donations to either the United Methodist Homes Foundation (noting the Unit 3 Garden) or to Binghamton Meals on Wheels at www.MealsonWheelsofWesternBroome.com.
