Ida Epstein Obituary

Ida O. Epstein, 102, passed away April 30, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Mary Oretskin, and her husband, Sidney A. Epstein in 1976; also her brothers Aaron Oretskin and Norman Oretskin, her twin sisters Esther Kater, and Helen Goldstein, and sisters and brothers in law Ruth Oretskin, Marilyn Oretskin, Milton Goldstein and Donald Kater. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin L. and Barbara E. Easton, Naples Florida; her daughter and son-in law Marilyn E and Stanley E. Faye, San Antonio Texas; and her daughter, Margery S. Epstein, Los Angeles Calif.; Also survived by two grand-daughters, Loren J. Faye, Denver Co.; Robin J. Gates and husband Joshua S., Denver, Co.; and step-grandson K. Scott Easton and his son Samuel T. Easton, Cumming, Ga, also survived by four great grand-children, Anna S. Gates, Abigail F. Gates, Sydney L. Dressel and Cooper B. Dressel all of Denver, Co. Ida is survived by her sister-in-law Annette Easton, Atlanta, Ga, and several nieces and nephews. Ida graduated from Binghamton Central High School, The Dale Carnegie Leadership Course, and the Dale Carnegie Sales Course. Mrs. Epstein obtain her securities license from the Securities & Exchange Commission in 1955. She was a Registered Representative of Waddell & Reed, Inc. from 1955-1968. She also acquired her insurance license from the Insurance Department of the State of New York during the same period. In a contest held in 1956 by Waddell & Reed, Ida earned the title of Number 1 Woman in the Nation and Number 1 (Man or Women) in the Upstate New York Region. When her husband, Sidney, opened his business, Mr. Sid - Furrier, Inc., in Binghamton, she held the office of Secretary - Treasurer from 1968 to 1976. Ida was a life member of Temple Israel, and active in the Temple Israel Sisterhood for many years. She was also a life member of Hadassah. For over 60 years she was active in the Jewish Community Center and received an award as "Senior of the Year" in 1995. She was Co-President of the Senior Friendship Club from 1995-1997. She was a member of the Senior Citizen's Council of Broome County representing the Friendship Club.  On her 90th birthday she was honored with a plaque presented by the Executive Director of the J.C.C for becoming a Life Member. She was a former member of the Triple Cities Business & Professional Women's Club, the Civic Club, and The Zonta Club of Binghamton, N.Y., a chapter of Zonta International. Funeral Services will take place at Temple Israel Riverside Cemetery in Conklin, N.Y. on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 10:00 am. Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell will officiate. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Vestal East and especially Ivy Orestskin for her devoted and loving care of Aunt Ida these past 5 years and for always bringing cookies.
