Michael Anthony Spencer

Michael Anthony Spencer (Mike) went to be with the Lord on May 1, ^{2017. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Kathleen (Berrington) Spencer, and his brother Jeffrey Spencer. He is survived by his twin brother, Carl (C.J.) Spencer, his three sisters, Kathy (Spencer) Scott, Susan (Spencer) Curry, and Janice (Spencer Watkins) Johnson. He is also survived by his three children, Sarah (Spencer) Johnson, Michael Tyler Spencer, Becky (Spencer) Schmitz, his sons-in-law Steven Johnson and Joe Nestoryak, and his six grandchildren, Zoe, Madison, Arora, Lucas, Sophie, and Sebastian, and his best friend- his dog Sarge. Michael was born in Cheltenham, England on July 2, 1957, just after his identical twin brother. At that time, his British mother and his American father were living in Swindon, Wiltshire, England while his father was stationed there with the United States Air Force. His family moved to the United States in 1958. He spent much of his childhood in Michigan. When he was 17 years old, his family moved to a suburb of Albany, NY where he met and later married his high school sweetheart and the mother of his three children, Linda Boynton. They moved to the Binghamton area in 1983. They were married for 10 years. He was proud of his British heritage as well as being a steadfast American patriot and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a retired Safety Inspector for the New York State Department of Labor, where he worked for more than 30 years. Michael was a loving father and a devoted grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Many of his happiest moments in recent years were spent with his grandchildren, watching their sporting events, recitals, and concerts, and during their one-on-one "Grandpa Days" when they did all their favorite things together. He was truly a lover of nature and animals. His favorite activities included playing baseball and football, playing with his dog, and watching live animal web cams. He was an avid sports fan and spectator, especially of his beloved Detroit and New York teams. His favorite hobbies were looking at box scores and opening packs of baseball and football cards. He loved history and trivia, particularly about sports. He also loved retelling stories, facts, and cheesy jokes. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 6th, from 12:00-1:00 at E.H. Parsons Funeral Home, (71 Main St., Binghamton) with a memorial service starting at 1:00.
