Wanda Swinamer, 91, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2017 at Good Shepherd Fairview Home. Wanda is survived by her children, Rick (Jackie) Sands, Bill (Margaret) Sands, Sue Sands and Scott Swinamer. Grandchildren, Kelly and Sean McDevitt, Cortney and John Whalen, Richard Sands, Michael Sands, Elizabeth Baker, and David Sands. Great Grandchildren, Shannan, Connor, Erin, Liam McDevitt, Moira and Emma Whalen. Also a very special cousin, Barbara Sabin and Family, nieces Cyndra Goffa, Shelly McDonald and Families, In Laws, Bill and Mae Swinamer and Families of Massachusetts and Florida. Special thanks to remaining “Media Maids” and friends, Penny Stringfield, Mary Lou Dimmick, Jo Ann Perrin, and Mary Ann Harkness for their many years of love and support, and to all of the amazing staff members of Good Shepherd Rehab, AL, and Cameo Court!  Wanda was born to the late Lloyd and Elsie Beardsley November 11, 1925. She graduated from Binghamton North High School and was a proud member of the Wilson Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1947. She was predeceased by her former husband, Eugene Edward Sands, (1970), and her husband of 40 years, Roy Vincent Swinamer (2005). Wanda had three illustrious careers. Her first, and lifetime career, was nursing. After graduation, she was employed at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center, and then on to private duty. She was also a former director of the Red Cross in Binghamton, Delivery Charge Nurse at Binghamton General Hospital, and Supervisor at the Vestal Nursing Home. During her nursing career, she was also involved with television in the early 1960’s and 1970’s, as an on air personality, for the Southern Tier Educational Television Association, (STETA), that eventually became our WSKG. She was also an on air personality, “Miss Wanda”, for both the Admiral Appleby and IGY program on WNBF-TV, and on the Mr. Willoby and IGY program on WBJA-TV. She also pursued a marketing career, and after taking several courses at Broome Technical Community College, she and Roy, opened RVSA Advertising in February, 1969, still proudly operating today, with 2nd and 3rd generations at hand. Wanda and Roy enjoyed many years of serving clients and especially making new friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 83 Main Street, Binghamton, NY, 13905, at 4:00 PM with Reverend Stephen Heiss officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until time of the service.
