Alice Mitchell- Born December 19, 1926 - April 5, 2022 Born in the Bronx, NY- moved to Binghamton in 1970. Predeceased by husband William John Mitchell and son Philip Andrew Mitchell. Survived by son Aaron Peter Mitchell, his wife Barbara and daughter Susan Mitchell, granddaughter Hannah Mitchell and grandson Max Mitchell. Her sisters Freida Karsh and Celua Marshak, nieces, Babette Wasserman and Rowena Hymson, and nephews David and Danny Marschak. Retired from SUNY Binghamton music department after teaching there for 40 years, also had taught at Barnard College, Vassar College and Rutgers University, Former Chairman and Professor of Music History at SUNY. Started the Academic liaison between Tri-Cities Opera and SUNY Binghamton for young opera professionals with Tri-Cities opera founder Peyton Hibbitt. Was a mentor offering creative support to hundreds of students who took her symphony course and music appreciation class. Great humanitarian and animal lover, and owner of 3 shelties-Samson, Pappageno and Chloe.
Beloved by all of her children and grandchildren, and best friend and source of inspiration to daughter Susan now and always.
