Amy V. Lyon, age 98, died on January 24, 2017 at Vestal Park Nursing Center. She was born on April 17, 1918 in Nordmort, PA. the daughter of the late Ollie and Mable Smith Morris and the step daughter of Anna Weatherhill Morris.
She was the classic homemaker who took wonderful care of her family and home. She worked in retail sales at McLean’s and TriPhi Shop stores, and was a cook at East Junior High School cafeteria. She enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, crafts, cooking and baking. Her sugar cookie recipe is a treasure passed down to family and friends. In the late 1950’s she was the treasurer of the Calvin Coolidge School PTA. She was a member of the East Side Homemaker’s Craft Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (2013), one brother, Harry Morris, three step-brothers, Donald, Walter and Jack Morris, one sister, Beatrice Shaffer, and two step-sisters, Myrtle Swanson and Betty Fuller.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Leonard) Benjamin, son, Paul (Debbie) Lyon, two grandsons, Kevin (Becky) and Keith (Jill) Benjamin, four great grandchildren, Kyle, Logan, Robert and Brooke, and three great great grandchildren, Gabriel, Cameron and Victor, two sisters, Lois Kerestes, and Eva Sprague, two brothers, Lloyd and Jerry Morris and one step-sister, Marie Bowen.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staffs’ of Vestal Park Nursing Center, and Good Shepherd Fairview Homes for the loving care they gave Amy.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday January 28, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main Street, Vestal, NY with Pastor Martha Vink officiating. Family and friends are invited to call Saturday at the church from 11:00 am until time of the service. Those wishing may direct memorial donations in Amy’s name to the Vestal United Methodist Church with a memo to the interest group. Arrangements are with the Ernest H.
