Welcome to the memorial page for

Chana Woodruff

July 30, 1921 ~ September 24, 2014 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Chana (Harriett) Balin Woodruff

Age 93 born July 30, 1921 and passed away peacefully on Sept. 24, 2014.   Preceded in death by her husband Emery Woodruff, parents Herman and Bess Balin, and sister Beverly Kaufman. Survived by sister Florence Balin-Morano.  She will be missed by her children Lynda Beard, Sheila Smithgall and her husband Robert, BeaKae Woodruff, and Jeffrey Woodruff and his partner David Mortenson.  She leaves behind ten grandchildren:  Michelle, David, Tricia, Daniel, Lore, Belynda, Michael, Steven, Renee, and Robin along with her great grand children Colette, Ryan, Brianna, Jessica, Monica, Alexis Kristin, and Ty and two great-great grandchildren.

Chana was a strong willed woman who fought for many causes in her life and won some and lost some.   Through her life she joined many organizations and clubs and fought to help many people in need and many who needed a helping hand.  She was always young at heart and loved the younger generation and especially children and could never resist babies.  As a volunteer for many schools, she read books to children.  Through her strong opinions and her voice for women's rights, the poor, the gay, and the underdogs of the world, she will be missed and always loved.  To lose a soul equally as strong and as loving as she was will forever be in our hearts.  She touched some with indifference, but most with her heart and her soul.

We live our lives wanting to please everyone and to make a mark in life that will be everlasting.  Those she has touched will carry that mark with them.

We wish to thank and acknowledge the staff and everyone in Daisy Court of the Ideal Nursing Home for giving Chana such great care and love these last four years of her life.  Your warmth and kindness towards her has never gone unnoticed.  Thank you so very much.
