Daniel Corser Obituary

Binghamton, NY  -  Daniel James Corser, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on November 26, 2021. Daniel was predeceased by his father, Herbert Corser; his sister, Sheryl Corser O'Brien; his brother-in-law, David Mann; and many beloved friends and relatives. Danny is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Corser; his brother and sisters, David (Jennifer) Corser,  Maureen (Scott) Singer, and Eileen Mann; his Aunt Patricia Guinane; his much-loved nieces and nephews: Kelly, Kerry, Kevin, Cara, Maximilian, Mylea, and Mara; many  treasured cousins, and lifelong friends.

Danny grew up on the west side of Binghamton where he attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and Catholic Central High School.  He was proud to be a Crusader and a member of the remarkable Class of 1972 at CCHS.  Danny went on to attend Columbia University where he pursued his studies as an English major.  He loved learning and excelled in many subjects though Latin and English were his favorites.  Dan had a brilliant and beautiful mind that has made a lasting impression on all of us who were blessed to be in his life.

Danny began working while still in high school, gratefully starting his first job at Audets Religious Gifts.  Through college, he worked at restaurants in NYC and Cape Cod where he furthered his natural abilities to prepare a delicious meal and host a gathering not soon-to-be forgotten.  Following college, Danny worked alongside his best friend and sister, Sheryl, to build a painting and wallpapering business that thrived for many years. Together they brightened homes, restaurants, and hotels in the area with their creative talents.

Danny’s most impactful career years, however, were those spent working with people in need.  He had a gift for listening without judgment and providing a compassionate response that was filled with quiet wisdom.  He used this gift throughout his career as a Direct Care Specialist; first at General Hospital/UHS for 20 years and then at Broome Developmental Center for 10 years. It was always Danny's hope to help people and he certainly did that and more.

Over the years of schooling and working, the friendships that Dan made at each of these places were the highlights of his journey. Danny was a friend to everyone and a friend for life.  He could light up a room with his warm and loving smile alone; add in a conversation with him (filled with his “Dan-isms” ), music and a dance move here and there - you’d forget about your troubles for sure.  He shared his love of fun, friendship, and life with his friends & family everywhere he went.  Danny's favorite place to spend time with friends was Oquaga Lake.  He treasured his time at the lake where he could always share a laugh with you, set out on a boat ride, enjoy a cocktail with you, and dance the night away at the cottage.

When Dan wasn't singing and dancing with friends, you could often find him at the piano with Mom putting on a sing-along show to behold. Danny loved his time spent with Mom, singing song after song as Mom beautifully played piano pieces of the season. We will cherish the memories of those heartfelt moments forever and alongside our Mom we will keep the music close.

Danny will be dearly missed by many friends and relatives across the country.  He will be remembered for the kindness he shared, the love that he gave, and all the generosity that his big Irish heart had to offer.  The family would like to thank the compassionate and dedicated team at Binghamton General Hospital's ICU for their support and care for Dan over the past several weeks.
