Life Legacy
Dorothy Elizabeth Nicholas was born on April 11, 1915 in Binghamton, New York to Leon and Emily Mason. She passed away September 28, 2013
at the age of 98. She had an older brother, Mitchell and three younger siblings, Leone, Stillwell and Emily, who all predeceased her. She was married in 1938 to Alexander Nicholas, Jr., who passed away in 1960. Thereafter, she remained a widow. While married,she and Allie (Alex) had one son, Alexander Nicholas, III, who currently resides in Lake Mary, Florida with his wife, Sandy. She has two grandchildren, Nicole and Alexander IV, both of whom reside in Central Florida. In her early days, Dorothy modeled and functioned in administrate roles in Binghamton. After meeting and marrying Alex, who was a veteran of World War II, opened a wrought iron business in Binghamton. In 1962, about two years after her husband's death, Dorothy and her son moved from Binghamton to Longwood, Florida, where she worked in the medical field for 8 years. At 55, she changed her career and went into the Real Estate business. She eventually opened her own real estate office in Longwood. She continued part time in the real estate business into her early 70's. For 27 years, starting about 1984, Dorothy also volunteered at Orlando Regional South Seminole Hospital, where in 2002 she received Volunteer of the Year. She also traveled extensively. In about 1990, Dorothy took up the hobby of oil painting. She continued to paint until 2011. Her painting reflected her love of family and peaceful nature. She exhibited her work until 2012. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Longwood, Florida. A service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, October 1 with a viewing at 10AM and service at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of Longwood at 891 E SR 434, Longwood, Fl.
