Dorothy Boone Space, who reached her 100th birthday on January 10, 2012 and celebrated it with her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home in Johnson City on Thursday, May 3.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Maxwell E. Space, who died in 1990.  The daughter of Dalton Judah Boone and Isabel Goodrich Boone, she grew up in Lorain, Ohio and graduated from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.  Before her marriage, she taught school in Ohio, in Milan and Lorain.  Dorothy and her husband spent the 54 years of their married life in Binghamton where they were active members of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacons and elders.  Dorothy enjoyed volunteer work as a literacy tutor and with Meals on Wheels.  She was a long-time member of the American Association of University Women and the Shakespeare Club.  Dorothy is survived by her son Theodore M. Space and his wife Martha Collins, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, and by her daughter Joan Arscott and her husband Lyndon Arscott, of Danville, California.  She is also survived by four grandchildren and their families: William Space, his wife Cheryl Space, and their daughter Aster Space, of Providence, Rhode Island; Susanna Space, her husband Stephen Yadzinski, and their sons Gardner and Wyatt Yadzinski, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Heather Christensen, her partner Michael Barrett, and her son Henry Christensen, of Redwood City, California; and Christopher Arscott and his fiancĂ©e Joan Yee, of Bangkok, Thailand.  Dorothy loved reading, word puzzles, daily walks, music, and travel.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a good friend, Dorothy was devoted to her family and friends in the Binghamton area and at the Hilltop Retirement Community, where she spent the last years of her life.  Her family would like to thank the Hilltop caregivers and friends for their kindness, care and support.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9 at the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus Chapel, 286 Deyo Hill Road, Johnson City.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Methodist Homes - Hilltop Campus or the United Presbyterian Church of Binghamton.
