Dr. Elliot G. Marcus of Vestal, New York passed away on August 2, 2011 after a long illness at his home in Vestal, New York. He is survived by Peggy, his loving and adoring wife and his two children, Dr. Richard Marcus (Stephanie) of Richmond, VA, and Julie Skinner (Dan) of Madison, NJ. He is also survived by four dynamic grandsons, Jacob, Adam, and Mitchell Marcus of Richmond, and Ian Skinner of Madison. Also surviving him are his brothers, Dr. Robert Marcus of Dix Hills, NY, and Dr. Allan Marcus of West Windsor, NJ, as well as Kathryn Lewis of Hillcrest, NY. In addition, Elliot is survived by many nephews and grandnephews.
He grew up in Maspeth, NY and graduated from Lafayette College and Temple University School of Dentistry. After serving two years in the US Air Force, he moved to Vestal and established a family dental practice in 1969. He enjoyed going to the office and had many loyal patients and employees. His community activities included membership in the Vestal Jaycees, and involvement with the Broome County Dental Society where he rose through the ranks and held the office of President in 1985. He was also on the board of Temple Concord and the Jewish Federation of Broome County where he was campaign chairman for two years. He was also a member of Vestal Hills Country Club where he enjoyed golf, but could never seem to master it.
Services will be held Thursday August 4th, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Temple Concord. Family will receive visitors from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell. Shiva will be observed for three days at his home in Vestal. Contributions in his memory can be made to Temple Concord 9 Riverside Drive Binghamton NY., The Jewish Federation of Broome County or a charitable contribution of your choice (in lieu of flowers). Arrangements are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street Binghamton NY.
