Evaline Glann Multer (Age 102)
On Valentine’s Day morning, February 14, 2016, Evaline Glann Multer passed away at the United Methodist Home’s Hilltop Campus in Johnson City, New York. She rejoins her beloved husband of 54 years in eternity: Henry Romaine Multer had also passed away on Valentine’s Day morning 26 years earlier.
Evaline, known as “Eppie” by her many friends, was the tenth child in a family of sixteen children. She learned the power of love, mutual support, responsibility, and self-sufficiency from her parents Maude Griffin Glann and George Henry Glann early on.
At age 14, Evaline was charged with getting her two younger brothers up, fed, and off to the one-room school house with lunches packed and beds changed. She then flagged down a milk truck driver to catch the bus to Endwell High School. She loved learning, graduating at the top of her high school class and applying her skills throughout life.
After Evaline married attorney Henry Multer in 1935, they combined their traditional values with travel and learning to build a close family life with their three daughters. Evaline became an expert bridge player as well as an adept seamstress, making her own patterns and family clothes. She was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Methodist Church where she actively volunteered.
Evaline Multer leaves behind her only surviving sibling James Glann. Her extended family members include nieces Maude Gilfoyle, Jane Cunningham, and Marlene Williams. Her three loving daughters are the late Susan Multer Peters, Janet Multer Christopher, and Mary Multer Greene.
Evaline’s loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and spouses include Jon Peters, his wife Anna, and daughter Sasha; James Peters, his wife Sue, late son Dylan, son Dustin, and daughter Danielle; Eric Peters; Julie Christopher and her husband Thale; Michael Christopher; Geoffrey Greene and Devin Greene.
The family’s memorial celebration for Evaline Multer and interment at the Worcester Cemetery will be held in spring. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to donate to the Tabernacle Methodist Church she loved and served so well in Binghamton, New York.
