Faye Gerstein, 91, died Monday, February 28, 2011, after an extended illness. Her loving husband, Sidney Gerstein, predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brothers Philip M Piaker, Abraham L Piaker and her sister Martha Saltzman. She is survived by her son Steven Gerstein, Monroe, North Carolina; her daughter and son-in-law Linda and John Wadleigh, Las Vegas, NV; her son David Gerstein, New York City; her sister Miriam Glickstein, Avon, CT; her sister-in-law Maida Piaker, Binghamton; and many loving nieces and nephews. For many years Faye was a member of Temple Israel, Beth David Synagogue and Hadassah. She was an avid supporter of Hillel Academy. She worked as a bookkeeper for the old Parlor City Shoe Company and later became the bookkeeper for Temple Concord. She loved to play cards and bingo and was also an avid Bridge player. Faye loved her family and gave up going to college in order to work full time in the garment industry to allow her brothers Phil and Abe to attend college. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2 :00 p.m. at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home, 71 Main Street, Binghamton, NY. Rabbi Tziona Szajman of Temple Israel will officiate. Burial will be at the Temple Israel Riverside Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Shiva will be observed from 7:00 pm to 9 pm, Thursday March 3 at the home of Alan and Julie Piaker. Contributions in Faye’s memory can be made to Temple Israel, Beth David Synagogue, Hillel Academy or the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Ernest H.
