Fern Sherwood, 96, passed away on February 6, 2015 at James G. Johnston Nursing Home in Johnson City. Originally from Jordan, NY Fern arrived in Binghamton in 1944. She was employed by IBM as a stenographer for Thomas Watson Jr., traveling with him worldwide for nearly 40 years. However, she was most well known for her lovely singing voice and her participation in the Tri-Cities Opera. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church where she shared not only her musical talents, but her leadership abilities as a member of Session, chair of the Stewardship and Worship & Music Committees. Fern is predeceased by her parents Bert and Kezia Richards Sherwood; brother Lester Sherwood and sister Gladys Sherwood. She is survived by her close friends Bob Bohner and Sue Thompson as well as friends at her church and the Hilltop Campus of the United Methodist Homes. Fern was a very generous individual in the way she supported her favorite causes. She was also a very private person, never wanting the spotlight to be on her. There will be a funeral service in keeping with her desires at the Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus in early April. Contact the Hilltop Campus at 607-798-1002 in late March for the arrangements. Arrangements are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street Binghamton, NY. Please visit ParsonsFuneral.Com to offer your condolences.
