Welcome to the memorial page for

Florence Hochron

July 14, 2014
Florence Hochron passed away peacefully on July 14th in Coral Springs, Florida, 6 days after celebrating her 90th birthday with her family.  Florence was a proud born and raised Binghamtonian, who resided here for 86 years until moving to Florida. She was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and Cornell University.  Florence began her career as a social worker in Binghamton’s Welfare Department and later worked at Planned Parenthood, helping those in need with her kindness and wisdom.  She was predeceased by her first husband Morton Kaganowich, and her second husband Manuel Hochron.  Florence is survived by her loving family; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Melda Kaganowich of Parkland Florida; her daughter and son-in-law, Judy & Richard Agata of New York City; her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Paula & Robert Wolkowitz of Columbia, Maryland; and, stepson and daughter-in-law, James and Jean Hochron of Rockville, MD, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Additionally, Grandma Florence was loved and cherished by Manny's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Gary and Melda's daughter, Jaletta.  Florence was active in the Binghamton community her entire life, volunteering at many different organizations, but none more dear to her heart than Temple Israel, of which she proudly helped Mort as he oversaw its construction in 1968.  She was an incredible mother and loyal friend, with a truly generous spirit, always putting her family's and friends’ needs ahead of her own. Her home was open to all, and her extended family loved to visit from all over the country as they knew when they arrived they would be greeted with Florence’s famous home-made cookies in the kitchen.

Funeral services will be held at Temple Concord, Riverside Drive, on Thursday, July 17th, at 3:00 pm, with Rabbi Tziona Szajman officiating.  The family will receive guests from 2-3 pm preceding the service. Shiva and a celebration of Florence's life will be held at the Doubletree Hotel on Thursday evening from 7-9:30 pm.

Contributions in Florence's name may be made to Temple Israel's Rebuilding Fund or Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
