Freda Rosenberg

Mrs. Freda Rosenberg, who was nearly 100 years old and a resident of Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, died on Thursday, October 24 of congestive heart failure.


She was the widow of Leon Rosenberg, a former Comptroller of the City of Binghamton. The Rosenbergs owned the variety store Lee’s on the East Side for many years in the 1950’s and ‘60’s. When the store closed, her husband worked in city government for several years before his death in 1976.

She is survived by two daughters, Natalie Henderson of Hayward, California, and Arleen Weinstock of Los Angeles; a son-in-law, Arnold Henderson; a granddaughter, Rachel Henderson, a grandson-in-law, Michael Toth, and a great-grandson, Evan Toth, from El Cerrito, CA.
  
Mrs. Rosenberg was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1914 to Jacob and Gussie Feinberg, both immigrants from Russia,  and moved to Binghamton with her extensive family in the 1920’s. She was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School.

She had three brothers, Benjamin, Nathan and Phillip Feinberg, now deceased, and three sisters, Elsie Kizer, Laura Goldstein and Rosalyn Shifrin, now deceased, all former residents of the Binghamton area.

Surviving her are her sister-in-law, Edith Feinberg and numerous nephews and nieces: Florence Kaplow of Rochester; Jeffrey Feinberg of  Vestal, Richard Feinberg of Phoenix; Michael Feinberg of Rhinebeck;  Nancy Black of Charleston; Warren Goldstein of Vestal, Craig Goldstein of Goose Creek, S.C.; Judy Goldstein of Kensington, CA; Jill Wurzel of Hamden, CT;  Robert Feinberg of Westport, CT; Debra Feinberg of Maplewood, NJ; Caryn Feinberg of Richmond, VA; Amy Sheppard of Binghamton; Vicki Helm of Hillsborough, N.C.;  Ellen Velardi of Bethany, CT; Carol Fish of Marlborough, CT; Laurie Shifrin of Seattle; and Paula Katz of New Rochelle.

With such an extensive family, Mrs. Rosenberg also had many grandnephews and nieces. Among them are Shana Oseran of  Tucson; Kenneth Sall of Huntington Beach, CA; Larry Sall of Vestal, David Kaplow of San Jose, CA; and Joan Obrecht of Rochester, and many others. Additionally, she had several great-grandnephews and nieces. She also leaves her devoted friend, Betty Martin of Johnson City, and her beloved nephew, Warren Goldstein, both of whom gave her so much love and care.

Mrs. Rosenberg was a longtime member of the congregation of Temple Israel. Donations can be made in her name to the Temple Israel Rebuilding Fund, or the American Heart Association.  Funeral arrangements will be at the Parsons Funeral Home. The funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 31, at 10:30 am at Temple Concord 9 Riverside Drive Binghamton, NY. Internment will follow at Temple Israel-Riverside Cemetery Conklin, NY.
