Helen Kurilecz

Helen Kurilecz of Binghamton, NY Helen was summoned by the Lord on February 17, 2021, after a prolonged stay at United Methodist facilities at Hill Top. She was predeceased by her parents John and Paraska Kurilecz; her brothers John and Joseph and her sister Mary. She is survived by her faithful cousin Karen Oranchak Desmond, her long-time friend Nancy Vaughn and special friends; Patrick Hurley, Edward Lakomec, and Mary Ann Smilnak; also many loving cousins and friends.  A graduate of State University at Cortland, she did post graduate work at Penn State University.  Her career as a teacher was in the Johnson City and Endwell School systems and Adult Education in the Binghamton System.  Helen was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma international Honor Society.  Being a life-long member of Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church, she sang in the choir and provided narration at their performances. For thirty three years Helen was the coordinator of the Religious Education Program during which she wrote and produced the annual Saint Nicholas Program being sure to include every child.  In addition she was the instructor for the Adult Bible Study Program.  She loved the theater and belonged to two local groups usually acting in some lead roles and also directing some for many years.  Painting was another pleasure.  Some of her paintings were featured at the First Ward Senior Center. Her works included still-life, flowers and portraits.  A very special Thank You to those nurses and aides at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home who took care of Helen for so many years.  At Helen’s request there will be no calling hours.  The Reverend Peter Tomas will officiate at the Funeral Services on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home, 71 Main Street Binghamton NY. Covid rules will be followed. Burial will be in the Holy Spirit Cemetery at a later date.
