Marion E. Nixon, 79, of Binghamton passed away Wednesday July 21st, 2010 at the Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.
Marion was the daughter of the Late Margarete Springer and Helmut Beaman. Marion sister, Elizabeth Worthy also predeceased her.
Marion, born in Brooklyn and was raised in the Bronx and Flushing, New York. She graduated from Forest Hills High School. In high school, she was one of four students chosen to interpret for the State Department's “Voice of America” station following the conclusion of WWII. Marion worked as an Executive Secretary for the original owners of Barnes & Noble on 14th Street, also for McGraw-Hill and Paramount Pictures all in New York City. She retired from the American Red Cross in the Binghamton Office and following her retirement received the Volunteer Distinguished Service Award. Mrs. Nixon was a Past Member of the Thomas Jefferson PTA, and a member of Lyceum affiliated with Binghamton University.
Marion loved gardening and house plants, was an avid reader, world traveler especially enjoying her trips to Europe, Asia, America’s National Parks and historic sites.
Surviving Marion are her loving husband, Allan Nixon of Binghamton, her children: daughters; Laurie (Stephen) Nixon-Reinke, of Rochester, NY, Elizabeth (Terence) Nixon-Moynihan, of Northborough, MA., Barbara (Michael) Clarke of Chico, CA, and her son Allan Grant Nixon, of Binghamton NY. Marion is also survived by her grandchildren; Ryan, Eileen, David, and Michael William, her brother Helmut (Sonny) Beaman, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
A Celebration of Marion’s life will be held Saturday July 24
th at 3:00 p.m. at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street Binghamton NY. The Reverend David C. Seaver will officiate. Family and friends are invited during calling hours Saturday at the
funeral home from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m..
