Monserrate Velez, age 85, died November 23rd, 2012 at Wilson Regional Medical Center of natural causes.
Monserrate was born September 8th, 1927 in Moca, Puerto Rico. She lived in Puerto Rico until 1947 when she left to live in Brooklyn, New York. She was married to Emilio Velez for 25 years. Monserrate became a Jehovah's Witness being baptized on November 26, 1960 at Jehovah's Witness Watchtower Society in Brooklyn, New York. She was a faithful member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation until her passing.
Monserrate Velez was known in the community as a kind and loving person. She loved to eat and laugh. Family was very important. She was a happy person who taught many people about Jehovah God and how to read Spanish.
Four children survive Monserrate; her daughter Dinah Gutierrez,her younger son Emilio Velez, her eldest son Efrain Cardona, and Evans Cardona. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Ivanna and Mark Gutierrez, Emily,and Natalia Velez, Kayla, Timothy, Christopher and Marc Cardona. Monserrate was the oldest of thirteen children , six of her siblings predeceased her. Her surviving siblings are; Ricarda Ramos, Onesima Ramos, Tony Ramos, Lydia Ramos, Barbara Gonzalez and Benny Ramos.
Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday November 27th , 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street, Binghamton NY. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
