Nancy J. Shaw, 68, of Vestal, NY passed away unexpectedly May 19, 2012.She is survived by her husband, Edward B. Shaw, and her only son, Jason E. Shaw. She was born in Johnstown, PA, to Margaret & Adam Rukinsky. Her early days were shaped by a big, urban family living close to poverty but full of life. She has three brothers (George, Joe, & David) and one sister (Margaret).Nancy met her husband, Ed, at a dance in 1961 and played hard-to-get, but he persisted and after six years of dating they married.Ed graduated from technical school and took a job with fast-growing IBM.Like so many other couples who moved to Endicott, they came with the dream of a better life - and they made it here. They devoted themselves to nurturing each other and raising one child.Along the way, Nancy found her artistic side. She dabbled in all kinds of handicrafts before settling on folk art painting. Her handmade creations sold both locally & nationally.Success coupled with the downsizing of IBM in the 1990’s focused the couple on the creation of their own retail folk art store. Our Country Hearts opened in October 1991 and became the focal point of the entire family.Through the community of customers they built a solid base of close friends.Nancy will always be remembered for her contagious smile and warm, caring, friendly ways.In the hardest of times, her spirit made the store a haven & refuge to many.Despite her extraversion, Nancy was actually a very private person who believed in the sanctity of individual decisions. As a result, no public service is planned. And in lieu of flowers please consider doing something kind for someone close to your own heart – that is truly the way she would have wanted it to be. Arrangements are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street, Binghamton NY. Please visit ParsonsFuneral.Com to offer your condolences.
