Robert Lyon
of Binghamton
Robert "Bob) Lyon, age 100, died September 8, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
he was born raised and lived his entire life in Binghamton, except for a few years when he lived in Chicago, Illinois as a teen. He was predeceased by his mother, Minnie, his father, Emmett, and his stepfather, Guy Allen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Amy Morris Lyon, his daughter, Marsha (Leonard) Benjamin, his son, Paul (Debbie) Lyon, grandsons, Kevin (Rebecca) Benjamin, Keith (Jill) Benjamin, great grandchildren, Kyle, Logan, Robert and Brooke, and great great grandson, Gabriel.
He attended schools in the area and at age 47 earned his GED . He was employed as a printer pressman with ANSCO (GAF) Corporation for over 35 years. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War, and met and married Amy in 1944. With his family and many dear camping friends in the Susquehango Campers and Hikers Club, he camped, fished and traveled all over the United States. Robert was a member of Mason Lodge # 107 for over 67 years. He also volunteered at the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club during the 1950's and 60's. He credited his long life to execise and eating blueberries. He was a kind, friendly, helpful, and stubbornly independent man.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jerome Michlouvich and the third floor staff at Susquehanna Nursing Facility for the sensitive care of our dear Dad.
Family and friends are invited to call Saturday September 14th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main Street Vestal New York. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 opm with Pastor Mike Willis officiating. Arrangement are with the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street Binghamton NY.
