Roy Christian Fynboe passed away on March 3, 2020, after a long illness. He was 76.
Although Roy held a business degree from Broome Technical Community College, his passion was the fire service. He was a volunteer member of the Nimmonsburg and Chenango Fire Companies for over fifty years and head of Link Field’s Crash-Fire-Rescue operations until the late 1990s.
In “retirement” he continued as an active-duty fireman, as well as a part-owner of Parson’s Funeral Home.
Roy’s social life was largely in volunteer and service organizations. He was a member of the Nimmonsburg United Methodist Church, the Danish Brotherhood of America, and a lifetime member of many Freemason organizations. Most notably, he served as a two-time President of the Empire State Grotto Association.
On a personal level, Roy enjoyed home improvement projects, classic cars, photography, and travel.
He is predeceased by his parents, Chris and Ruth Fynboe, and his wife of fifty years, Lorelei. He is survived by his siblings, Erik, Stuart, and Andrea, along with his son, Dr. Scott Fynboe.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate some of your time, talent, and/or treasure to a favorite volunteer organization in Roy’s name. Do what he did so often – help your fellow man and take care of someone in need.
