OBITUARY FOR RUTH ORETSKIN
Ruth Oretskin, 98, passed away on March 17, 2015 in Surprise, AZ.  She was a long-time resident of Binghamton, NY.  Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Aaron Oretskin and her daughter, Binnie Glorit.  She is survived by daughter Gail Bober (Haim), daughter Shari Shapiro (Leonard), son Barry Aaronson (Susan), son-in-law Irv Glorit, nine grandchildren (Lori Lasser, Jilly Lederman, Ben Aaronson, Daniel Aaronson, Laurel Aaronson, Jodi Shapiro, Lisa Shapiro, Wendy Glorit, David Glorit), seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives.

Born on November 23, 1916 in Utica, NY, she moved to Binghamton at age 17 with her mother, Lakey, who married Jacob Oretskin creating a strong blended family including her new siblings Ida, Aaron, Esther, Helen, and Norman.  She was a mainstay of the Binghamton community, leading a hectic and fulfilling life, always ready to spearhead new activities. As well as operating the Miracle Market with her husband Aaron to whom she was married for 57 years, she actively was involved in a many community service organizations.  She was a lifetime member of Temple Israel for over 70 years, working on their Caring Committee including Oneg Shabbat preparations, Board of Trustees, and was chairman of the Torah Fund.  She delivered Meals on Wheels and visited seniors in their homes, was a dynamic instructor for Diet Workshop for 22 years, and was part of the Mitzvah Corps under the umbrella of the Jewish Family Service.  Ruth was a charter member and former president of Mothers of Twins Club, former president of Horace Mann School PTA, and was a lifetime member of Hadassah.  She was co-president of Senior Friendship Club where she did program planning and created elaborate table decorations for birthday celebrations.  She worked with Operation Brotherhood to spread joy at nursing homes during the holidays.  Ruth was selected as recipient of Hillel Academy’s Community Service Award in 2002 for her outstanding service throughout the Binghamton community.

Ruth moved to the Phoenix area in 2004.  Throughout her life, Ruth was a loving, generous, and exceptional daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.  Funeral services were held on March 19, 2015 in Binghamton (Ernest H.
