Sergey T. Geurkov, 87, of Binghamton, NY passed away on July 5, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father Tateoz and mother Elena, sister Silvia and brother Konstantine. He is survived by his dearest wife Lidiya, his sons Garri (Lyudmila) and Alksander (Farida), his grandchildren Gregor,(Elmira), Sergey, Milena, (Sisemphone) and Alksander, (Anna) his great grandchildren Lidiya, Inessa, Elizabeth, Elena-Maria, Alksander, Liam. Sergey was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and moved to Baku, Azerbaijan when he was 2 with his family. He joined WW2 at the age of 17 and served as a sniper. Sergey earned numerous medals and recognitions. After the war he remained in the military for 5 years in Germany where he met his wife, a nurse, on the dance floor. They married after six months, later returning to Baku to raise their family. Sergey and Lidiya remained happily married for 66 years. After returning from military Sergey worked as a metal fabricator for 49 years. He had golden hands, he loved to create things and fix things at home. He enjoyed learning, and he was a recognized innovator until retirement. In 1993 Sergey immigrated to the U.S. to join his son's family. He was a member of the Armenian Church.
Sergey dedicated himself to his family, influencing and inspiring everyone who met him. He will remain in our hearts, and we will always love him dearly. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Lourdes Hospital.
Friends may wish him goodbye at the Ernest H. Parsons Funeral Home 71 Main Street Binghamton, NY on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am. at St Gregory Illuminator Church at 12 Corbett Avenue, Binghamton. Internment will follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal NY.
