Sylvia Azersky, 89, of Binghamton, passed away on Friday morning, January 11, 2013. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Julius Azersky; and her parents, Joseph and Marion Brown. She is survived by her six siblings, Shirley Galpeer, Beverly Franks, Jean Cushner, Gloria Taylor, Elaine Burton, and Dan Brown; her three children, Rhoda (Walter) Flohr, Mark (Janet) Azersky, and Michael (Madeline) Azersky; her four grandchildren, Adam Azersky, Robin Azersky, Allison Azersky, and Eric Azersky; her great-granddaughter, Lexi Azersky; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School, Class of 1942. She was a devoted member of Temple Israel, Vestal, serving on the Sisterhood and as a religious education teacher. Sylvia was an avid reader, an excellent cook and baker, and a devoted matriarch. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, traveling, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. Her family fondly remembers the many holiday celebrations and family gatherings at her home. Funeral services will be held at Temple Israel, 4737 Deerfield Place, Vestal, NY, on Sunday. Calling hours will be 1:00-2:00 with the funeral service following at 2:00. Shiva will be observed at the home of Michael Azersky, 37 Vermont Ave. Binghamton, NY, Sunday and Monday 5:30-8:00.
