Thelma (Kranson) Cohen

Thelma Cohen, 88, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother died on Sunday, January 2, 2016, at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a long and happy life.  Born December 26, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Ida and Morris Kranson.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Jacob; her brothers Albert, Isadore, and Sidney; nephew Marty Kranson and also her son-in-law Alfred.  Thelma was strong, caring and nurturing.  Her family always came first.  She loved music.  She believed in the good in everyone.  Thelma was a longtime member of Temple Israel in Vestal, NY.  She worked for many years for Broome County Child Support and Collection Unit as an Account Clerk.  Later, during her retirement Thelma worked for Brome County Board of Elections.  Thelma truly balanced work and family life.  Surviving Thelma are her children Karen Klein, Ilene Cohen and Alan Cohen; daughter -in-law, Kathleen Cohen and her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Emily (Ben), Joseph Max, Allison, Michael, Katie, Drew, and Ryan.  She is also survived by her beloved great grandchildren, twins, Jacob and Audrey. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Noon at Beth David Synagogue, 39 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY.  Interment will follow at Temple Israel-Riverside cemetery in Conklin.  The family will observe Shiva following the interment at the home of Ilene Cohen.  Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel, Vestal, NY or Beth David Synagogue, 39 Riverside Drive Binghamton, NY.
