William Deland Stemples, 91, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014.  Bill , as he was known, was born in Binghamton, New York on September 15, 1922, the only son of William Redfield Stemples and Melva Christine Stemples. He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Harriette Cooley Osgood, whom he married in Windsor, Vermont in 1959.  Bill's education included West Junior High School, Class of '37 and Binghamton Central, Class of '40.  He attended Bucknell University and graduated from  Tri- State University at Angola, Indiana in March of '44 with a BSME degree.  Bill was an engineer and was employed at NACA, National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the predecessor of NASA, in Cleveland , Ohio at the Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory from 1944 to 1950 where he was involved with the development of jet engines. He then went on to have a distinguished career at IBM-Endicott for 27 years, retiring in 1977.  He was a member of the IBM CC Microcomputer Club, IBM Quarter Century Club since 1975,  the Brownsville, VT Historical Society, the Broome County Historical Association,  the IBM Country Club, the Kopernik Astronomical  Society and was a life member of the Wyoming Valley, PA Historical Society in Tunkhannock, PA. Bill served in the United States Army from 1944 though 1947 and was a life member of the American Legion Post # 80 in Binghamton.  He held an Amateur Radio license since 1960 as WA1WVS , formerly WA2KCP.  Bill was interested in in the field of CREATIVE THINKING  and was a former member of the Creative Problem Solving Institute at Buffalo, NY. He taught in Voluntary Education at IBM , Binghamton Central Adult Education Division, and Broome Community College. Since 1936, Bill was a member of West Presbyterian Church in Binghamton, New York which recently merged into the United Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his step daughter, Jane Elizabeth Osgood and her husband Ted Hilles of Vermont,  and by Bill's friend of many years Halina Bulat. At Bill's request, funeral services will be private and held at Vestal Hills Cemetery, in Vestal .  Memorial donations may be made to United Presbyterian Church in Binghamton.  Please visit Parsonfuneral.com to offer your condolences.
