Winifred Elizabeth Matthiessen Berley of Vestal
Winifred Berley, 99, passed away April 16, 2013 after an extended illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene F. Berley (1991). They had been married for 50 years. Survivors include a cousin, Cathy Hoffmann, her God-daughter, long time companion/caregiver Andrea Fynboe. Close friends include James and Louise Duffy, Sherry Marfisi, Ann Marshall, Marion Palmer, the Bates, Carroll, Taggart, Cooper, Rosendale and Fynboe families, residents of Covert Cottage's, and members of her church.
Winifred was a graduate of Pace College, NYC in 1937. She was gifted in the needlework arts and held an appreciation for the Library Sciences. She taught sewing at the Binghamton Girls Club. She was a member of the Binghamton Garden Club, the Monday Afternoon Club, Tri Cities Opera, Binghamton Symphony, Eastern Star, Amaranth, and a supporter of the Phelps Mansion.
Winifred was a faithful and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Binghamton (now United Presbyterian Church). She served as a member of the Women's Circle, provided her secretarial talents to several committees, and she was dedicated to the refurbishment project of the Pipe Organ.
Winifred was entombed with her beloved Eugene on April 22, 2013 at the Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday April 27, 2013 at the United Presbyterian Church, 42 Chenango Street, Binghamton NY at 12:00 noon. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service in the Library Lounge.
Those wishing may direct memorial donations to the United Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Winfred's name.
